UGANDAN-COMMUNITIES WORLDWIDE,TO FOLLOW AFRICAN ROOTS &.CULTURE.

Ugandan-Community African roots are long and strong. Our elders were heroes who survived in difficult situations and stood fast. They had a powerful culture full of discipline respect, love and dignity. We need to reclaim this.

Most African and Black youth are ignorant of their heritage and culture and without culture they are like trees without roots. The lack of connection to their ancestry has robbed our youth of their confidence and dignity causing problems in their respective communities. For the sake of the next generation we need to make a difference. The African Roots and Culture Center is a focal point for all people African & non-African. Regardless of race, religion, culture or creed, all people are welcome at this center.

Our children keep on dropping out of school, and every year that passes by the number is increasing .......Why? Our youths are being imprisoned not knowing how many are there and why they are in such a place. Some are also being hospitalized without having anyone there to care and nourish them since we immigrated here without a family.

As black people we need to unite together to solve our problems . Umoja ni nquvu. (united is power). We can make a larger family within ourselves, and receive all the family benefits. Back home we are united already by our blood, tribe, village here we have to form a union so we can be a large family. We must make this happen for the sake of the upcoming generation.

How do we facilitate this change?

1. U.C will sponsor black communities by giving them space for their assemblies and activites.

2. U.C will host a black senior's forum twice weekly to brainstorm ideas for the betterment of our people. We need our elders, as their knowledhe is vital to our existence as a strong, effective community.

3. We will recruit young adults who can relate with and train their peers. Today rapid advances in technology mean that we must keep up with the times.

How do we help the children & youth?

1. All children will have the opportunity to learn their native language through community volunteers.

2. The children must have the vision of their heritage and only we as black people can provide this. U.C will promote black heritage by entertaining children with movies, story times, libraries, etc.

3. Once a month U.C. will give awards to youth and children for outstanding achievements. By doing this, it will inspire all of them to do their best and to reach their dreams.

4. Every summer we will endeavor to send a number of children to Africa to examine the history and heritage of their people. This will also give them an opportunity to visit their homeland. But they must earn this trip (by way of school grades).

5. Ugandan-Community will give young adults the opportunity to display their artistic talents by hosting concerts and through viewings of local artists. We will sponsor them by selling tickets to the above-mentioned events.

How can you help?

The African Roots and Culture Center cannot do this alone. We are all responsible for our next generation. We all have the ability to create anything we want and every one of us, man and woman has something to offer. We are responsible for the future of our children. We and only we alone must prepare our children for adulthood and to face the future with confidence and pride.

  • The first key is unity. Black communities in BC, for the first time ever, need to be united for our next generation.

U.C doesn't depend on government funding-we exist as a business. By purchasing tickets to events, you will be supporting the Centre and our work for the next generation. This project belongs to us, we must keep it afloat.

We ask for donations such as computers, books paintings, etc. and most of all yourself and your knowledge. U.C needs the contribution of your knowledge to pass on to our next generation.

African Roots and Culture, is more than a business- it's about us, it's about parenting, it's about our NEXT GENERATION. With God's Will and our effort, forever we will stand and together we will make a DIFFERENCE = Ugandan - Community in Vancouver-western Canada as well Wananch, members Peace,Love,Unity is our motto.
